Funding Assistance

Minor hockey should be accessible to all families, regardless of income. If your family requires financial assistance to register your child, there are several programs available to help cover registration fees.

Each funding program has its own application process and eligibility requirements. Please apply early to ensure funds are in place before the season begins.

Hockey Canada Assist Fund

The Hockey Canada Assist Fund provides up to $500 in funding per player to cover registration fees. Funds are paid directly to the minor hockey association (like NOMHA) on your behalf.

The fund is open to families with a net household income below $100,000. Proof of income is required during the application process.

KidSport

KidSport provides grants of up to $150 per child per year to help cover registration fees. The child must be 18 years or younger and participating in a season of sport led by a qualified coach.

  • What’s covered: Registration fees only
  • What’s not covered: Equipment, camps, travel, fundraising, etc.
  • When to apply: Before or at the beginning of the hockey season
  • Eligibility: Priority given to first-time applicants; sport must be affiliated with Sport BC

Canadian Tire Jumpstart

Jumpstart helps families in financial need enroll kids aged 4 to 18 in organized sports.

  • What’s covered: Program fees involving sport or physical activity
  • Eligibility: Based on government low-income guidelines

A4K – Athletics for Kids

A4K provides financial support for children aged 5 to 18 whose families meet one of the following:

  • Receive social assistance
  • Have a net income of $40,000 or less
  • Are in foster care or similar programs

Grindstone Award Foundation

Grindstone offers grants for female players under age 19 who want to play hockey but face financial barriers.

  • What’s covered: Registration and/or skill development
  • Selection based on: Financial need and desire to play, not skill level
