U18 Female Novas – Provincials Recap

It was an exciting 5 days with the U18A Female Novas! A banquet was held at the beautiful Splatsin Community Centre on Wednesday March 20th. It was a great turn out with great food and cake pops.  With help from BC Hockey, we had an all-female officiating team; 10 female officials.

The 9 teams that competed were Northeast Predators, Northwest Zone team, Prince George Capitals, North Island Impact, North Shore Avalanche, Richmond Ravens, South Okanagan Knights and the North Okanagan Novas.  The Novas came out of the round robin with two wins a tie and a loss which placed them in second place in pool B. They came in 4th overall which is amazing for these young female athletes.

It was a rough semi final game in Lumby on Sunday morning with a 3-2 loss against rival South Okanagan Knights. The Novas showed their grit and never give up attitude in the bronze medal game.  Down 2 players for the game it was going to be an uphill battle against the Richmond Ravens. The Novas were defeated but gave a good fight.  In the end the South Okanagan Knights beat the North Shore Avalanche in the final game to win gold.

We would like to thank all the sponsors who help support the girls throughout the year!!! And all the community volunteers that helped us during the tournament. We appreciate their commitment to our players. It was great to see all the fans that came out to cheer on the Novas – THANK YOU!! We can’t wait to see what next year will bring for the U18A Female Novas and the future Novas who were out to support the team with their cheers, signs, notes and fist bumps.
